Would you paint wood trim white with dark hardwood floors
My downstairs is a little dark.. My house was built early 1900s and the
hardwood is still in good shape but l would love to lighten it up a bit by
painting the trim and stair rails white. Has anyone done this? How do you
think this would look?
Many homes done this way look very nice - but please, if you go
this way: seal the wood before you paint it.
Otherwise, at some point in the far future, there may be a very frustrated
person (like me) cursing while trying to remove white paint from hardwood
that someone painted before sealing the wood. (I am working on a door
frame right now.) Or that person may be you in the very-near future changing her/his mind. Since you have to pull off the woodwork before you paint, try a touch of a furniture refinisher in an inconspicous spot to see if you can lighten up the tone of the wood (I've used both Master is & Formby is with great results) without having to paint.
Don't do it stark white, I would do it more of a warm shade,
like some kind of an off white, it would really depend on the wall colour
No. It won't look right. Maybe you could sand the floors a
bit and restain lighter?
